Freckle ELA Benchmark Assessments make it easy for teachers to track student performance and progress throughout the school year and make informed instructional decisions.
You can use them for a variety of purposes, including:
- To decide what standards/skills to teach or reteach
- To decide whole-group instructional topics
- To identify differentiated small-group instruction or reading intervention
- To identify the skills to focus on for state testing
- To give students practice with computerized testing
The ELA Benchmark Assessments test students on all grade-level Common Core ELA standards for informational and literary texts, writing, speaking, listening, and language. Each assessment contains multiple reading passages in addition to stand-alone questions that will take students approximately one hour to complete. Question types include multiple choice, multiple answer, and free response questions in which students need to pull evidence from the text.
To assign an assessment to your students, select ELA in the left navigation bar on your Teacher Home. In the ELA tab, select Assign, and then select Benchmark Assessments.
First, choose the students to whom you'd like to assign the assessment.
Then, pick the grade level of the assessment you'd like to assign. ELA Benchmark Assessments are available for grades 3–8.
Finally, choose the version of the assessment you want to assign. You can see which you have or have not already assigned. There are several different versions at each grade level so that teachers can administer different assessments throughout the year.
Once you've customized your benchmark assessment, select Assign.
The assignment will then be sent directly to students on their accounts. It will also appear on your list of ELA assignments, where you can track progress towards completion.
Detailed reporting for ELA Benchmark Assessments is also available on Freckle.
