Who can do this with default user permissions?
Teachers
The Freckle ELA program automatically adjusts to students' individual practice levels. When students practice ELA in Freckle, their starting levels will either be set by a short pre-test or a Star Reading Assessment (learn more about Star and Freckle). You can see the starting levels for your students by logging on to your Teacher dashboard. Select Reports in the left navigation bar and then select ELA at the top of the screen. When you select ELA Levels, you will be able to see students' starting and current levels for ELA Skills Practice, the Library (Articles & Stories), and Word Study practice areas.
Editing ELA Levels
In order to change a student's level in a particular domain or practice area, select the pencil icon next to the current level in the row for that student. You will see the available practice levels for the practice area. Select the appropriate level for your student. When you confirm the change by selecting Update Level, this will replace the student's starting and current levels with the selected practice level. Note: Prior progress made in this domain will no longer be available.
Resetting ELA Levels
You can also clear the starting and current levels and assign the pre-test by selecting the first option in the Update ELA Levels modal.
Library & ELA Skills Practice
Library reading and ELA Skills Practice share the same starting pre-test. When you re-assign the pre-test, it will update levels for both Library text levels and ELA Skills Practice domains. To reset these levels, first select the Library Text Level in the domain drop-down and then the Edit button at the end of the row for that student. The first option in the list is Clear Level and Reassign Pre-Test. If you choose this option and then select Update Level, the student's starting and current levels will be cleared and they will be prompted to redo the pre-test the next time they log in and choose Library or ELA Skills areas.
Word Study
Word Study practice can also be reset following the same steps. Select Word Study from the domain drop-down and then the Edit button at the end of the row for that student. The first option in the list is Clear Level and Reassign Pre-Test. If you choose this option and select Update Level, the student's starting and current levels will be cleared and they will be prompted to redo the pre-test the next time they log in and choose Word Study.
Note: When you clear levels in ELA Skills Practice, Library reading, or Word Study, prior progress made in these practice areas will no longer be available.
Decodables & Sight Words Practice
Unfortunately, there is currently no way to update student practice levels in Decodables or Sight Words.
